How do you view the operation of the new Slovak government since 2020? The government did not have it easy. She had to face a problem like no other government before her. First, the COVID-19 pandemic, the anti-vaccination front of some opposition parties, Russian terrorism in Ukraine and, today, the mass migration of Ukrainian war refugees. So the government didn’t have it easy, because it had to jump on the running train, it practically didn’t even have the famous 100 days to start. All in all, I can say that it is satisfactory, although it could have been better. Looking at the government of Eduard Heger, who is the stronger and weaker element in this government? Despite the fact that Eduard Heger sometimes seems only as a spokesman for the government and not its real prime minister, it is good that Igor Matovič has resigned “only” to the position of minister and does not unnecessarily provoke such conflicts as in the past. Maybe in the end it will be good that Heger is the weaker element. Its weakness can become a major advantage for the existence of the government. What has changed in the exchange of Prime Ministers Matovič for Heger? First of all, it hasn’t changed. The dominance of the chairman, OĽaNO, has not changed. After all, she didn’t even have a reason, because OĽANO has the most members in parliament. However, the way we communicate has changed. For the first year, the government experienced one conflict after another. However, this second year is significantly calmer. Has at least half of the government fulfilled its election promises, as we are exactly half of its government? Maybe those partial yes, but the election programs arose at a time when we did not yet know that Slovakia would soon be a disaster like a pandemic and the consequences of Russian terrorism. I think yes. The government of Igor Matovič did not deal with the first weeks of the crown, but Petr Pellegrini. There was nothing anywhere then. There were no drapes, respirators, disinfectants. The material reserves were empty, and despite this misery, the nominee of Smer was found, who even during this period allowed himself to pour something somewhere. I think the main difference is in this. Despite the fact that this government also has “our people”, there is no danger that someone will rob us here even in extremely difficult times. Do you think a similar coalition has a chance to form after the next election? In such a case, who will replace the increasingly weakening For People? I think the crucial issue after the elections will be about the cooperation between Voice and SaS. If the two parties maintain at least similar support and are able to agree on post-election cooperation following the elections, there will be no need to rebuild the government in its current form. Finally, Richard Sulík also stated earlier that he would not go to the government with Igor Matovič. In Slovakia, however, it is traditionally the case that at least one party will be formed before the elections and it can mix with the support of the current government parties. On the other hand, in the ranks of the far left and right, it seems so far everything is clear. Although the Supreme Court’s decision on the sentencing of Marian Kotleb is still pending there. At the moment, everything is open.
