Sophie de Closets leaves the presidency of Fayard editions – Le Monde

A graduate of the Ecole Normale Supérieure and a history graduate, Sophie de Closets was recruited in 2004 by Fayard as a publisher, before being appointed literary director in charge of non-fiction in 2010, then editorial director on January 1, 2013. HACHETTE The Hachette Livre group announced, in a press release, the departure of Sophie de Closets from the post of president and general manager of Fayard editions, Thursday, March 24. Joining the group in 2004, she was appointed ten years later to this position, in January 2014, at the age of 35. Today “desiring to enter a new phase of her career”, she was particularly noted for having won the French edition of the coveted memoirs of Barack and Michele Obama, in 2017. “I spent ten eight wonderful years within the Hachette group where I learned the profession of publisher and where I was able to exercise it in exceptional conditions”, she said in this press release. In a survey published on Wednesday, Le Monde reported how Nicolas Sarkozy, friend of Arnaud Lagardère, owner of the group, claimed to “take care” of the fate of the publisher after the publication of books that had displeased him.
