Carnival participants run over in Bolivia: there are at least 9 dead and 19 injured

(CNN Spanish) — At least nine people died, including a minor, and 19 were injured after a driver ran over carnival participants in the municipality of Independencia in Bolivia.

“Averaging 6:30 p.m. yesterday (Sunday), in circumstances where a folkloric entrance was taking place in this municipality, unfortunately a misfit driver, presumably drunk, bursts into this folkloric entrance, as a consequence of which he runs over the dancers, giving unfortunate and sad results”, the director of Cochabamba Transit, Renzo Mercado, informed local media on Monday.

Mercado added that the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case together with Police personnel, who are looking for the driver of the vehicle that fled.
