Hundreds of people demonstrate Thursday outside the Russian Embassy in Paris against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Yannick Jadot and Christiane Taubira, both presidential candidates, showed their support for the Ukrainian people.

A few hundred people, including Yannick Jadot and Christiane Taubira, presidential candidates, gathered Thursday, February 24 at midday in front of the Russian embassy in Paris to protest against the Russian invasion in Ukraine and to castigate the president Vladimir Putin, noted AFP.

“No war”, “Putin Ukraine 2022, Hitler Poland 1939”, could be read on some placards brandished by demonstrators, who chanted “Stop Poutine, stop la guerre.”

The demonstrators, carrying the yellow and blue flag of Ukraine, sang a Ukrainian song dating from the Second World War.

“We are here to help the citizens of Ukraine, those who are still there,” said Teresa Voytanovska, a 42-year-old Franco-Ukrainian.

A woman, introducing herself as “Maria, Russian citizen”, spoke in the middle of the demonstrators. “I have no words to describe what is happening. Russia has nothing to do here. Russia must leave Ukraine alone,” she yelped.

Christiane Taubira made a brief appearance at this gathering, which Yannick Jadot also participated in.

“Mr. Putin’s aggression is a war to which we must respond in French and European unity,” said the environmentalist presidential candidate, calling for sanctions “against (Vladimir) Putin and the oligarchs”.

“A balance of power will force Vladimir Putin to stop the war he is waging in Europe and for which he bears full responsibility”, continued Yannick Jadot, alongside his spokesperson Delphine Batho and the national secretary of EELV Julien Bayou.
