The ranking of the most reliable car brands, the Altroconsumo survey

The car is one of the most used means of transport for the daily movements of most citizens, but what is the level of reliability of the cars we drive? As emerged from the Altroconsumo survey, carried out between April and May 2021, which involved about 52 thousand European motorists in France, Belgium, Spain, Portugal and Italy (from which about 17 thousand respondents arrive), for more than 1/3 of consumers the factor the most important choice when buying the machine is the degree of reliability of the make and model. This value is even more important if we consider that more than half of those who answered the survey declare that they have two cars in the family (51%). By crossing a series of data provided by consumers such as the age of the car (cars up to 10 years of age), the number of kilometers traveled and the quantity and severity of breakdowns suffered, it was possible to draw a concrete picture of the degree of reliability. of the different brands of cars depending on the type: city car, family car, SUV. In the first category, oriental brands such as Toyota, Mitsubishi, Honda, Suzuki, Kia and Hyunday stand out; in the second Lexus and Toyota recorded the best results; while as regards the SUVs we always find Lexus, Subaru, Porsche, Toyota, Mitsubishi and Kia in the first places. The best of the brands that have been awarded the 5 stars (highest score in the ranking) have obtained the Altroconsumo seal of “Most Reliable Brand”. The Organization has also drawn up the ranking of satisfaction for the cars of a certain brand. It emerges that the models preferred by consumers belong to a very high range, in fact we find brands such as Porsche, Tesla and Lexus on the podium. Models from more accessible car manufacturers such as Opel, Fiat and Lancia also follow. Since the frequency of visits to workshops is a main parameter of comparison in the survey, Altroconsumo wondered what the maintenance costs in authorized branded workshops are. Among the main problems that consumers have to face are, in the first place, those relating to the electrical part of the vehicles, followed by those relating to the braking system and, finally, the problems related to the combustion of the engine. a higher expense to the mechanic in twelve months. With an average of more than or equal to 400 euros per year we find Land Rover, Mercedes Audi and Volvo. Brands such as Lexus, Alfa Romeo, Bmw, Jeep, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Volkswagen require a cost of around 300 euros per year. The cars with the lowest maintenance costs are Lancia (200 euros), Suzuki (225 euros) and Fiat (240 euros).
