Agricultural anger is still relevant. In the Guingamp region, after Begard Thursdayit was in Guingamp that took place, this Saturday, an action of Young farmers of Côtes-d’Armor (JA 22). The latter claiming a fairer remuneration for their work in the face of increased charges, in the midst of price renegotiations with large retailers. Shortly after 11 a.m., around forty of them, from the cantons of Begard, Lézardrieux, Plouagat, Tréguier and Guingamp landed with tractors and trailers in the Carrefour car park.
“Everything is affected”
On the spot, they oscillate between anger and impotence. Like this farmer from Trégor, who has been there for two years and who is taking part in his first event, “because there, it’s no longer possible”. He cites lamb’s lettuce “sold for €18 a kilo, and bought for €4… And all the products, it’s like that. Everything is affected”. “Every head of cabbage I cut, I lose five cents,” testifies another. “And I spend eight months cutting cabbages… It’s weird at the end of the year”. Demonstrate? “We try to take the time, we have no choice,” slips another producer. They then went to the shelves to check the origin of the products. Some see it as “a symbol”, others, like Véronique, a little more than that: “It’s the defense of our income”.
Shortly after, Pierre Grosjean, director of the Carrefour de Langueux, came to discuss with the farmers, while recalling his status as a group employee. A dialogue sometimes broken sticks. In the end, a new exchange was recorded for next week, in connection “with the store and the headquarters”, according to the director. “It’s still sad to have to come and see you and put pressure on you,” says Tristan Delisle, secretary general of JA 22. “If we lower the curtain, so can you.”
Three Guingamp supermarkets concerned
It will at least be lowered this Saturday afternoon, the sign having closed its doors. ?Despite this concession and the discussion, the farmers emptied a trailer of unsold produce, dumped slurry and blocked access to the car park, before leaving, shortly before 2 p.m., towards the Leclerc de Guingamp, then the Intermarché de Saint -Agathon.
They have, in the meantime, been joined by others, who had carried out an action at the Callac Intermarchéthis Saturday morning, and exchanged for two hours with the store manager.
For Tristan Delisle, “it’s an unprecedented crisis. We are not asking for the moon, simply to live from our profession and for the margin to be better distributed. We’ve been on the bridge for two months and we’ve been completely ignored.
After passing through these three supermarkets in Guingamp, the farmers met again at their starting point, at the Kernilien roundabout.
There, they again dumped slurry on the road, but without blocking traffic. They also placed tires in the center of the roundabout, and set them on fire.
