French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed during a phone call on Sunday that they would seek a ceasefire in eastern Ukraine’s Donbas.

Putin and Macron agreed on “the need to prefer a diplomatic solution to the current crisis and to do everything in their power to achieve such a solution.” Macron’s office said a meeting between Russia and France’s foreign ministers would take place in the coming days.

In a similar sense, the Kremlin informed about the call, according to which both presidents “believe it is important to step up efforts to find a solution through diplomacy”.

During a phone call with Macron, Putin accused the government in Kiev of the current escalation of violence in the Donbas. According to him, the current “dramatic” sharpening of the situation on the front line in Donbas has provoked “provocations” by Ukrainian forces, the Kremlin’s statement said.

In this regard, the Russian president has criticized the fact that some NATO countries are supplying weapons to Ukrainewhich, according to him, encourage Kiev to forcibly solve the Donbass problem, the TASS agency wrote.
