The president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, was “very concerned” by the performance of Russian figure skater Kamila Valiyev in the freestyle at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing.
Only the 15-year-old ROC representative faced enormous pressure after a positive doping finding, failed to do so, fell several times and, although she led after a short program, ended up fourth.
The first man of the IOC criticized especially the “cold” reactions of the implementation team of the young sportswoman. “I was very worried when I watched it on TV. The reaction of her coaches and the entourage was chilling. The pressure on Valiyev was completely beyond my imagination.” the agency quoted AP Bach, who thus apparently bumped into Valiyev’s coach Eteri Tutberidze.
Television camera microphones picked up the words of the controversial trainer just after Valiyeva’s broken ride, which criticized her: “Why did you give up? Why did you leave and stop fighting?”
