Of the 20,248 samples taken by antigen testing, 2,233 (11.03 percent) were positive.

Twenty-two people have died from Covid-19since the beginning of the pandemic, the number of victims has risen to 18,201, she said National Center for Health Information.

9:50 WORLD – Germany has overcome the peak of the coronavirus wave caused by the omicron variant. Despite the high number of infections, hospitals are not overloaded, German Health Minister Karl Lauterbach said today.

“I don’t see the risk of overloading the hospitals at the moment, but we have to be careful,” Lauterbach said.

However, he warned that the so-called Scandinavian subvariant of omicron BA.2, the share of which is growing in Germany, could cause problems. “But we are not yet in safe waters. The problem may be the BA.2 variant, which now has a share of about 15 percent in Germany,” he said.

According to Lauterbach, variant BA.2 is more contagious than the original omicron and also appears to cause a slightly more severe course of infection.
