Žilina’s Kia has launched the production of a plug-in hybrid version of the Sportage model – SME.sk

After the hybrid and mild-hybrid version, this is the third version of electrification of this model.

TEPLIČKA NAD VÁHOM. At the beginning of February, Kia Slovakia launched the production of a plug-in hybrid version of the latest Sportage model.

After the hybrid and mild-hybrid version, this is the third version of electrification of this model. TASR was informed about this by the company’s spokesman Tomáš Potoček.

The start of series production in Teplička nad Váhom was preceded by the construction of a new handling station on the chassis line in the assembly hall together with a short battery conveyor.

“At this station, a high-voltage battery is attached to the body floor in the middle of the vehicle. The centrally located battery ensures a balanced weight distribution,” Potoček explained.

He added that the plug-in hybrid system in the fifth generation of the Sportage model consists of a 1.6 T-GDI turbo-petrol engine in combination with an automatic transmission, an electric motor, a lithium-ion (Li-ion) battery and all-wheel drive.

“A synchronous electric motor with a permanent magnet and an output of 66.9 kW is fitted to the Sportage cars. The Li-ion polymer battery has a capacity of 13.8 kWh. The Kia Sportage PHEV has a combined fuel consumption of 1.1 l / 100 km and a range of 70 kilometers (WLTP ), “a company spokesman added.
