Coman saves Bayern! – Debrief and NOTES of the players (Salzburg 1-1 FCB) – Maxifoot

Led for a long time, Bayern Munich snatched a draw in Salzburg (1-1) in this round of 16 first leg of the Champions League. A result obtained thanks to the goal of the French Kingsley Coman at the end of the game.

Robert Lewandowski has been neutralized.

Four days after their surprising defeat at Bochum (4-2) in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich was expected at the turn for their round of 16 first leg of the Champions League in Salzburg.

Result, the Bavarian ogre was still scared, but still returned from Austria with a draw (1-1) snatched at the very end of the game.

Bayern dominated on its strong point

A frustrating result for Salzburg who managed a better first period. From the start, the Austrians dominated Bayern in intensity. The Bavarians could not approach the opposing cage and exposed themselves to dazzling counterattacks!

Adeyemi’s speed wreaked havoc, as when the German nugget launched the counter which allowed Adamu (1-0, 21st) to open the scoring with a magnificent curled shot in the top corner! Enough to sanction a shy start to the match from Bayern, which came close to 2-0 when midfielder Aaronson forced Ulreich to relax.

Coman snatches the draw

The Munich goalkeeper was more worried than his counterpart Köhn, still called upon by Gnabry at the start of the game, and very happy to see Sané miss his cross shot at the half-hour mark. It was little, and it was above all complicated for Bayern, inevitably returned with more determination after returning from the locker room. The German champion was clearly pressing the accelerator and the game then looked like an attack-defense. We found a Coman on fire on his left side!

It was the Frenchman who saw Köhn successfully deflect his shot. Then the Salzburg goalkeeper made an incredible double save in front of Sané and Tolisso! He thus gave the opportunity to his teammates Adeyemi and Adamu to kill the match. But it was Coman (1-1, 90th) who found efficiency at the very end of the game, for Bayern logically rewarded for their second period. Everything remains open for the return match at the Allianz Arena.

Match score: 8/10

What intensity! Until the last seconds, the two teams offered us a very pleasant match. We still wonder how the actors were able to keep up this pace throughout the game, and especially with so much quality. We are already looking forward to the return!

The goals :

– In the counter phase, Camara launches Adeyemi perfectly on the right side. The young German accelerates, transplants towards the axis and overtakes Hernandez. The ball reaches Aaronson who deflects to his left for Adamu, whose opposite corner recovery leaves no chance for Ulreich! (1-0, 21st)

– On a cross from Pavard on the right side, Müller deflects with a header at the far post. Faster than Kristensen, Coman arrives launched and resumes without control to deceive Köhn (1-1, 90th).

Players’ NOTES

Maxifoot assigned a commented note (out of 10) to each player.

Man of the match: Mohamed Camara (8/10)

There are not many players capable of dominating the midfield against Bayern. This Wednesday evening, the midfielder from Salzburg joined this category with a very high level performance! His enormous volume of play and his impact in the duel considerably hampered Bavarian traffic. Not to mention his quality in the ball outings, like his opening on Adamu’s goal. Impressive !

RED BULL SALZBURG :

Philipp Köhn (7.5): like Thibaut Courtois in Paris, the Salzburg goalkeeper concedes a goal in the final minutes after a great performance. He did not shine in his footwork. But his saves against Gnabry, Sané and Tolisso have long allowed his team to believe in the feat.

Rasmus Nissen Kristensen (3.5): solid and well helped by Capaldo, the right side contained Coman well in the first period. Then his teammate was less serious in his withdrawal. And above all, the Frenchman has clearly accelerated. This is how the defender took the water in the second act, he who arrives late on the goal of his direct opponent.

Oumar Solet (7): Olympique Lyonnais and its supporters must be amazed by its progress. Faced with Bayern’s offensive armada, the central defender showed incredible serenity! He won the vast majority of his duels and countered many strikes. A very convincing performance.

Maximilian Wöber (6): alongside the French, the Austrian international has also shown solidity. The big difference is that he didn’t hesitate to clear the ball far ahead instead of looking for a teammate.

Andreas Ulmer (6.5): sometimes in difficulty in the first period, when Gnabry was served in good conditions, the captain of Salzburg completely took over the German after half-time. Alone against several Bavarians, he is the author of a superb intervention.

Nicolás Capaldo (5.5): very disciplined in his defensive withdrawal, the right midfielder contributed to Coman’s poor first period. But maybe he had less energy afterwards. As a result, he offered fewer counter solutions and more often left Kristensen alone against the Frenchman.

Mohamed Camara (8): see comments above.

Nicolas Seiwald (4): aligned on the left side, the midfielder was satisfied with the minimum, that is to say to ensure the defensive withdrawal on the corridor where Gnabry could pose a problem. For the rest, he was not dangerous on the offensive level, if we except his shot in the arms of Ulreich. Replaced at the 80th by Luka Sucic (not rated).

Brenden Aaronson (6.5): decisive passer for Adamu, the American international had an impressive first period! He kept harassing the Bavarian defenders and projected himself on each counter. He could have scored the 2-0 goal without Ulreich’s save. Then, like his team, he was less visible after the break.

Noah Okafor (not rated): quickly injured and replaced in the 12th minute by Junior Adamu (6), started well in this match rich in intensity. He didn’t need time to get up to speed. The proof, he scored a nice goal a few minutes after entering the game. He then brought depth on the counter, but he lacked technical finesse to keep the ball. He also misses a huge opportunity because of Pavard’s save.

Karim Adeyemi (6.5): untenable in the first period, the young talent from Salzburg made misery for the defenders of Bayern! It was enough to send a ball to the side and his acceleration did the rest, as evidenced by the action of Adamu’s goal. He then disappeared from the encounter, before reappearing for a final opportunity neutralized by Ulreich. Replaced at the 87th by Maurits Kjærgaard (not rated).

BAYERN MUNICH :

Sven Ulreich (6.5): decisive, the Bayern goalkeeper prevented Salzburg from making the break. After Adamu’s goal, for which he is absolutely not responsible, he makes the necessary save on Aaronson’s pivot shot. Then intervenes on Adeyemi’s cross attempt at the end of the match.

Benjamin Pavard (7): often criticized, the French international deserves to be congratulated when he plays at this level. He made many valuable interventions thanks to a good placement, like his save in front of his line on Adamu’s shot! He is then implicated on Coman’s goal.

Niklas Sule (3): with a big mistake from the start, the future Borussia Dortmund player announced the color. He showed astonishing feverishness throughout the meeting, in particular because of the vivacity of Adeyemi and Aaronson. And we can not say that he caught up with the recovery.

Lucas Hernández (4): far from being serene, the Frenchman had a very complicated first period. In addition to his dangerous ball losses, he was caught up in speed by Adeyemi on the action of the goal. Luckily for him, he picked himself up in the second act.

Serge Gnabry (4.5): hard-hitting, the Bavarian winger was the most dangerous of his team in the first period. For example, he forced Köhn to relax. But while Bayern were more threatening on the return from the locker room, the balance of power was strangely reversed with their direct opponent Ulmer. Replaced at the 78th by Eric Maxim Choupo Motting (not rated)who failed to head the ball a few meters from goal;

Joshua Kimmich (5): used to organizing the game in an armchair, the Bayern midfielder never had the necessary time in the first period. The harassment of the Austrians prevented him from finding solutions. It was a little better in the second period, even if his game sometimes lacked verticality.

Corentin Tolisso (5.5): faced with the enormous intensity imposed by Salzburg, the former Lyonnais was one of the few Bavarians able to respond in the first period. Like Kimmich, he has long struggled to find his attacking teammates, barring his opening for Gnabry. He throws himself to equalize at the end of the match but comes up against goalkeeper Köhn. Replaced at the 80th by Marcel Sabitzer (not rated).

Kingsley Coman (7): totally muzzled by Kristensen and Capaldo in the first period, the tricolor winger spent the second after the break. Sharper, he became unstoppable and brought danger to every ball he touched. It is no coincidence that he is the author of the goal of the equalizer.

Thomas Muller (4): without his assist with a header for Coman, the German international really wouldn’t have had much to remember from his match…

Leroy Sané (5): impossible to find between the lines before the break, the attacking midfielder tended to go down to touch the ball. He still got himself some situations but his lack of efficiency prevented him from finding the fault.

Robert Lewandowski (3): this is obviously not the first time that the Polish striker has been discreet in a meeting. But this time he did not find the net. He was even deprived of the ball and opportunity.
