“It is a pity that the referendum was not on euthanasia but on the murder of the consenting party”. Thus the President of the Constitutional Court Giuliano Amato comments on the judgment of inadmissibility in the referendum ‘legal euthanasia’. “The decision was made on the basis of criteria provided by the Constitution. I am much less political than him, he should know”, says Amato, answering the question about the statements of Marco Cappato, promoter of the referendum on euthanasia, who referred to a “political decision” of the Council.
