A native of Český Tešín, Jaromír Hanzlík was born on February 16, 1948. He comes from an acting family, his father was an operetta and cabaret actor, his mother a theater inspector and assistant director on television. His parents divorced when he was still young.

Thanks to his mother, he got his first childhood role at the age of 13, and his convincing performance predestined him for further acting tasks. Although he was accepted to the Theater Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (DAMU) in Prague in 1966, he decided to join the Prague Theater in Vinohrady, where with his talent from day to day he established himself as a representative of significant tasks.

Filmgoers most often remember Hanzlík from the films How to Drown Dr. Mráček (1974) or Summer with a Cowboy (1976). He also demonstrated his acting skills in the films The Carriage to Vienna (1966), Romance for Flute (1966), Honor and Glory (1968), The Pleasures of the Fatherland (1969). He later starred in the popular television series Such a Normal Family (1971), Woman Behind the Counter (1977), Ambulance (1984).

He broke away from the previous type of tasks in 1980, when he made an energetic, benevolent and especially noisy uncle Pepin in the film Postřižiny (1980) by director Jiří Menzl. The role for which the golden statues are received overseas has brought him great success on the domestic scene, and Pepin’s funny statements are still quoted today. Hanzlík was given another opportunity by court director Bohumil Hrabal – Jiří Menzl – in the film Snowdrop Festival (1983) and later in the film The End of Old Times (1989).

The artist ended his long-term engagement in the theater in 1993, where he played his major roles in Hamlet, The Auditor, Crime and Punishment, Oedipus and Cyran of Bergerac. The audience was almost always enthusiastic about his acting. Nevertheless, at the peak of his career, he decided to leave the theater. He interrupted his acting activities for 16 years, justified the fact that his work did not fulfill him, and went to live abroad.

He returned to acting only in the sequel to the cult series Hospitals on the Outskirts of the City after Twenty Years (2003), and also starred in the series Insurance Happiness (2004). However, the actor did not enjoy working in it and so he “died” in the series. On the contrary, in the film Men in the Rye (2009), he played one of the main characters with his acting partner Marta Vančurová and again played with enthusiasm.

In 1997, he began to present the engaging television show Smiles, an anthology of Czech humor. There were familiar faces from the acting environment and funny dialogues. As a driver of the old railway locomotive in Černý Balog, viewers could also see him in a strong life story called Peace in the Soul (2009), directed by Vladimír Balko.

The actor has had a table with his name on the Bridge of Fame in the Spa Park in Trenčianske Teplice since 2009, where he personally affixed it during the Art Film Fest.

One of the most popular Czech actors, Jaromír Hanzlík, also starred in a Czech thriller inspired by real events in the Czech underworld and the fate of Radovan Krejčíř, called Gangster Ka, which appeared in Slovak cinemas in September 2015. He most recently appeared in the comedy Summer with a Gentleman (2019).

The charismatic artist is successful with women and has taken over the love of his colleagues. He took over the first wife from the singer Václav Neckář and another partner, the well-known actress Jana Brejchová, the Czech actor Vlastimil Brodský.

Their daughter Tereza Brodská, who also became an actress, and thus Hanzlík’s colleague, does not like to mention this period. As a mother’s friend, he tried to re-educate her. Just these days, she also published a holiday photo with her mother. “Our joint holiday with my mother, Hanzlík and me. Maybe that’s why my expression and maybe that’s why my last vacation together, “ she led to a shot where she doesn’t look too happy. And when someone with an allusion to Hanzlík’s film commented on the shot with the words: Summer with a cowboy, Tereza immediately responded: “Instead of a cowboy, he would rather sit with terror.”
