BEIJING – None of the four Slovak biathletes managed to make it to the fighter races, and after an unsuccessful performance in Saturday’s sprint, the individual competitions for the Olympic Games in Beijing ended for them.

The best result from the quartet was Šimon Bartko, who had the best running time, but with three hesitations on the shooting range he lost his way. With a deficit of 2: 58.4 minutes to the victorious Nores Johannes Things Bö, he took 65th place. He was seven seconds away from the fighter (Top 60). “It was quite a poor performance, I’m especially sorry for the two mistakes in bed, since I shot the fighter there. It’s a great pity that it happened at the Olympics,Bartko said.

Injuries just before the race

He was injured shortly before the competition, which limited him in running: “Cross-country skiing could definitely be better, but before the race I had a pretty hard fall on the ski test. I fell on the coccyx and when I skated, it stabbed me in the back.”

Even Michal Šima did not make it to the fighter races, despite the fact that he made only one mistake on the stand, he finished three places behind Bartko. “I can’t rate it at all, only the shooting was positive, otherwise it was bad. I was upset. I couldn’t deny it properly and I was without strength. I probably didn’t even choose the best skis because the conditions changed.” said Shima.

Matej Baloga finished 85th (+3: 40.9) with one mistake on the shooting range, and Tomáš Sklenárik finished 87th (+3: 45.9) with three inaccurate shots. All four of them have only a relay waiting in Beijing, which is on the program on February 15. “I need to get some rest and take over the last races so that I can leave the Olympics with better taste,” he added for Shima.
