BEIJING – Home acrobatic skier Eileen Gu won a gold medal at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing in Tuesday’s Big Air competition. In the final third final jump, she pushed France’s Tess Ledeux to second place, and Mathilde Gremaud from Switzerland finished third.

The 18-year-old native of the USA, who has represented China since 2019, became the first Olympic champion in this discipline in history. Big Air is making its five-circle debut in acrobatic skiing in Beijing. Eileen Gu made four turns in the last attempt, touched the edge of the skis and landed turned backwards.

Thanks to this performance, she got ahead of Ledeux in the sum of the two best jumps, who was the only other woman to do the same “trick” on the competition scene.

Even if I didn’t make the jump, I wanted to send a message to the other girls so they wouldn’t be afraid to push their boundaries.
