On the eve of the 70th anniversary of her accession, the 95-year-old queen said she had a sincere desire for Camilla to be known as the queen’s wife when Charles became king. Camilla was originally supposed to have the title of Princess Wife. However, the Queen’s statement opens the door for her to be known as Queen Camilla in the future.

Charles Palace spokesman Clarence House said the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall were “moved and honored”.

Queen Elizabeth II she thus commented directly on the unresolved issue of the future title of Duchess of Cornwall. “It is my sincere desire that when that time comes, Camilla will be known as the queen’s wife,” she said.
