US troops arrived in Poland on Saturday to strengthen the eastern wing of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) at a time of growing tensions at the Ukrainian-Russian border. TASR informed about it on the basis of a report from the PAP agency.

Eight planes with soldiers, military equipment and accessories landed near the village of Jasionka in the southeast of Poland. The Polish Ministry of Defense expects a total of 1,700 members of the armed forces from the 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, North Carolina, to arrive, the PAP explains.

The US is responding to Russia’s move to deploy tens of thousands of troops at Ukraine’s borders and calls on the West to meet security guarantees, the PAP said, adding that there were currently about 4,500 US troops in Poland.

On Wednesday, US President Joe Biden officially agreed to deploy another nearly 3,000 troops to Germany, Poland and Romania. The US Department of Defense has announced that the mission is being carried out in support of NATO countries in Eastern Europe. The first American reinforcements arrived in Germany on Friday.
