Monaco stops the rise of OL – Debrief and NOTES of the players (Monaco 2-0 Lyon) – Maxifoot

Flamboyant in the first period, AS Monaco won at home against Olympique Lyonnais (2-0) this Saturday. Les Gones, who remained on three consecutive victories, were weighed down by a missed start.

Diop, Lucas and Ben Yedder were decisive against Lyon

Stoppage for Olympique Lyonnais! After three wins in a row, the Rhone club lost Monaco (0-2), this Saturday, during the 23rd day of Ligue 1. Thanks to a good first period, ASM won three precious points and temporarily moved up to 4th position in the ranking. Lyon is stopped in its rise and occupies the 8th rank.

OL cracks among

The Mongasques came into the game well and quickly put pressure in front of the Lyon goal. After only two minutes of play, Lucas found the fault against his former team to give the advantage to ASM (1-0, 2nd). The match could not have started better for the Principality club. Behind, Philippe Clment’s men insisted and offered themselves several opportunities to make the break, but Lopes was decisive against Martins, Volland and Lucas.

The OL goalkeeper held the barracks for almost half an hour to keep his team in the game. But the Portuguese international finally had to bow a second time on a small dive from Ben Yedder, ideally served by Diop (2-0, 27th). A two-goal advantage at half-time totally deserved given the domination of the locals who were never worried by the muzzled and inoffensive Lyonnais during the first period.

Lyon recovers, but Monaco resists

The entries of Cherki, Ndombele and Faivre the break breathed new life into Lyon. More present in the duels and a cut above technically, the Gones deprived their opponents of the ball. An improvement in the game which did not materialize in terms of opportunity. Because the players of Peter Bosz finally did not manage to be particularly dangerous in front of the goal of Nbel, except on an attempt by Lukeba pushed back by the Mongasque goalkeeper. It was too little to hope to overthrow a solid and serious Monaco team until the final whistle.

Man of the match: Wissam Ben Yedder (8/10)

In great shape since the start of 2022, the captain of Monaco shone again tonight. Decisive passer for Lucas on the opener, the Mongasque striker then made the break by lobbing Lopes. He could have added two assists to his tally if Martins and Diop had completed their opportunity in the first period.

MONACO :

Alexander Nbel (5): the Monegasque goalkeeper was not having a great evening, multiplying the approximations in the first period, but he was decisive against Lukeba after the break. In the end, he finished the match without conceding a goal, and that was the main thing.

Ruben Aguilar (6): the Mongasque right side makes a good copy. A serious game defensively, he won most of his duels.

Axel Disasi (7): the former defender of Reims delivered a high level performance. He embodied Mongasque solidity, especially in the second period, by multiplying the decisive interventions in his surface. A rock!

Guillermo Maripn (6): like his understanding of the central hinge, the Chilean defender had a solid match. In the first period, he releases a hot ball on his line.

Caio Henrique (6): the Mongasque left side was correct on this poster. Good defensive moves and interesting moves up his lane, even if he didn’t do all that well in the last pass.

Aurlien Tchouamni (7): in the midfield, the French international still had a good impact. His reading of the game allowed him to scrape many balls. And he delighted in the direct play of his team by always looking quickly for his attackers in depth after recovering the ball, very often with great accuracy.

Gelson Martins (5): the Mongasque attacking midfielder did not spare his efforts. Generous, he wore out his opponents by multiplying calls and provocations with the ball at his feet. Replace the 61st by Vanderson (not).

Jean Lucas (7): the Brazilian midfielder wanted to show up against his former team. His projections towards the Lyon surface posed problems for OL. Kevin Volland (5): in a lower position, the German striker did not deserve. He worked hard to hinder Lyon’s recovery and open up space for his teammates. Replace the 61st by Youssouf Fofana (not not).

Sofiane Diop (7.5): the twirling attacking midfielder of ASM had quite impressive activity. Present in almost all the good shots, he serves Ben Yedder on the action of the opener, then offers a decisive pass to his attacker on the second Mongasque goal. His connection with his centre-forward is a delight.

LYONS :

Anthony Lopes (6): Beaten by Lucas’ header at the start of the match, the Lyon goalkeeper did what he could to keep his team alive in the first period, winning ahead of Martins, Volland then Lucas. But he ends up cracking a second time against an untenable Ben Yedder.

Lo Dubois (3): once again aligned to the right of the three Lyon defense, the French international will have nightmares of Ben Yedder and Diop. The two Mongasques hurt him very badly on the two goals for ASM. In the second period, he found some colors in his right-back position.

Jrme Boateng (4): the former Bayern Munich central defender had a complicated match. He suffered from the speed of the Mongasques and was caught by Diop’s pass on Monaco’s second goal.

Castello Lukeba (5): we knew the young Lyon central defender more serene, but he is still there to prevent Diop from finding a partner alone in the area 2-0.

Malo Gusto (3): in a right piston role, the young defender seemed a little lost against the Mongasques. He was hesitant in his placement. Replace the 46th by Romain Faivre (5)author of a rather serious but lackluster first in the jersey of OL.

Maxence Caqueret (5): overwhelmed like his entire team in the first period, the Lyon midfielder went up a notch after the break when his team had control of the ball. He was then able to express his quality of passing to find his partners in the spaces.

Thiago Mendes (3): totally dominated in the midfield, the Lyon midfielder had a complicated match. He didn’t really exist for 45 minutes. Emerson (4.5): aligned as an attacking midfielder, the Italian full-back had a fairly average match. He put in the commitment in the duels, but he weighed little in the zone of truth.

Moussa Dembl (4): after his winning goal against OM, the Lyon center-forward did not succeed in scoring. Although muzzled by the Mongasque defence, he did not manage to get a real chance to score.
