The appointments game opens: from Invitalia to Sace the dossiers on the Government table

The game of appointments of the investee companies of the Ministry of Economy and Finance or its subsidiaries is underway, whose BoDs or top management are due to expire with the meetings scheduled for spring. A game that is, however, still in its initial stages but which already promises to be hot given the substantial dossier that is on the Government’s table: there are, in fact, the top management of 49 companies to be renewed in addition to 41 companies in which the respective boards of auditors: from Invitalia to Sace, 100% controlled by Mef, up to Snam, 31.4% controlled by Cdp Reti and Fincantieri, 71.32% controlled by Cdp Industria. After the round of appointments of 2021 in the name of the ‘Draghi method’, which led to the appointment of the new leaders of the big states, such as the FS and Cdp, this year too the line that seems to be taking shape is that of continuing in the path traced of the discontinuity. Among the appointments on the table of the Prime Minister, Mario Draghi, there are those relating to Invitalia led by the CEO Domenico Arcuri since 2007 and by the president Andrea Viero. In the event that Arcuri is not reconfirmed, one of the names circulating in these hours is that of the ‘natural successor’, namely Bernardo Mattarella, the current CEO of Banca del Mezzogiorno – Mediocredito centrale (Invitalia group). , the company that passed from Cdp directly to Mef, currently at the top are the CEO Pierfrancesco Latini and Mario Giro, who is carrying out the functions of president from here until the renewal of the top management after the resignation of president Rodolfo Error in January. Latini will probably return to the CDP and for his successor the choice could fall on Federico Merola who has been an independent member of the Board of Sace since June 2016. For the role of president, on the other hand, it would focus on a senior official of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, restoring a custom that he had seen between 1998 and 2001, the director general of the Treasury becoming president of Sace. At that time Mario Draghi was appointed president. This time the hypothesis of an appointment of the current director general of the Treasury, Alessandro Rivera as president of the company, seems difficult to implement. Probably the choice could fall on another important executive of the Mef.For Simest, whose board is about to expire, the top management could be reconfirmed: both the current president Pasquale Salzano and the current CEO Mauro Alfonso. The CEO of Snam, Marco Alverà, who has led the group since 2016, could also be reconfirmed. The spotlight will then turn to Fincantieri, the group led since 2002 by Giuseppe Bono, born in 1944, who has brought the group to the top in these 20 years. of world shipbuilding. One hypothesis could be to choose the path of discontinuity for the post of CEO with Bono who could remain in the presidency. Among the names circulating for the role of CEO in pole position there would be the general manager from September 2020 Fabio Gallia (former CEO of Cdp from 2015 to 2018) but also the general director of naval vessels of Fincantieri, Giuseppe Giordo. also the renewals of the top management of Italgas which is led by the CEO Paolo Gallo and the president Alberto Dell’Acqua. Among the other appointments to be identified – there are a total of about 350 seats to be identified between the board of directors and boards of auditors – there are also those concerning Sport and Health, the Spa that manages public funds for Italian sport, which is currently led by the president and to Vito Cozzoli. On the table there is also the appointment of the sole director of PagoPa who is currently Giuseppe Virgone but also the renewal of the Sogin Board of Directors led by the president Luigi Perri and by the CEO Emanuele Fontani who have been in office since 2019. On the table there are also also the boards of directors of 26 subsidiaries of the FS group which is currently led by the CEO Luigi Ferraris and of 7 subsidiaries of the CDP.
