Covid today Austria, vaccination obligation in force from 18 years

Today in Austria – with the signature of President Alexander Van der Bellen – the law that requires compulsory Covid vaccination from 18 years of age came into force. The rule applies to all residents over the age of 18, except pregnant women and those who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons. Those who have contracted Covid and have recently recovered are also exempt under certain conditions. The infringements will result in fines of up to 3600 euros starting from mid-March, when the investigations will begin. About 70% of Austrians are immunized with at least two doses of the vaccine. In the country, about 33 thousand infections are recorded daily. The number of deaths has increased in recent days – with twenty deaths in the last few hours – a figure however far from the peak reached at the end of last year, when there were 150 deaths per day.
