The man noticed a light phenomenon resembling a glowing line in the night sky, which disappeared after a short time. “Did anyone notice this” caterpillar “that faded after a while?” he asks in the Facebook group Severe Weather Slovakia. He also added some shots of the strange phenomenon.

It didn’t take long and he got the answer in the discussion below the post, even repeatedly – it sounded Starlink. It is a project of the aerospace company SpaceX, which is backed by the well-known innovator Elon Musk. It consists of launching thousands of satellites into Earth’s orbit in order to provide such high-speed internet even in remote places on the planet where there is no access to mobile signals or data. By 2027, up to 12,000 satellites should be launched into space. About 2,000 of them have already been issued.

It is highly probable that the phenomenon, which is also observed by Slovaks in the night sky, is part of this satellite constellation. You can see where the current Starlink satellites are located at findstarlink.com.

Astronomers have their heads in mourning

We will probably have to get used to such phenomena in the night sky. However, not everyone is fond of it, and in the past, especially astronomers, who see a problem in thousands of satellites above our heads, have spoken out. According to them, the huge occurrence of satellites, which also have a brightness comparable to stars, can significantly complicate space exploration.

The satellites were also criticized for being highly reflective and reflecting a lot of sunlight, so they are also visible in images from their telescopes. There is also a risk that we will not see what is behind them – including space bodies that could be a threat to our planet.
