The roads are difficult to pass

In northern Slovakia, gusts of wind also cause problems in central and western Slovakia and mountain passes. Impenetrable sections are increasing for fallen trees.

The RTVS green wave announces that the section between Spišská Nová Ves and Levoča or behind the village of Hybe towards Poprad is difficult to pass due to snowy roads and sliding trucks.

“North D1 in the section Poprad – Štrba – Važec – Liptovský Hrádok is snowy and slippery,” adds RTVS Green Wave.

He also points out that due to heavy snowfall, the police closed the road between Muráň and Červená Skala. A strong gust of wind blows on the Besník mountain saddle and there is a continuous layer of mushy snow on the road.

The Fačkov mountain pass is closed in both directions after a truck accident. “The section from the Šturec mountain pass behind Dolný Harmanec in the direction of Banská Bystrica, a tree fell there on the way. The fallen tree makes it impossible to cross on the main road near Staré Hory, “explains the Green Wave of RTVS.

According to her information, the fallen tree is also on the route Trnava – Červeník, at the turn to Žlkovka, the section can be crossed alternately. The strong gusts of wind can also be felt in the capital, the drivers draw attention to it especially on bridges and overpasses.

It is snowing heavily in the east

Wind and heavy snow complicate the situation in the Tatra and sub-Tatra region. Marcel Polomský, Director of Road Administration and Road Maintenance of the Prešov Self-Governing Region, told TASR that so far all roads in the districts of Poprad, Kežmarok and Levoča are passable, but advises drivers to consider driving.

“The snow is getting thicker and harder, a very strong wind is blowing, so the roads around which there are no trees are blowing for us. Polomský explained the situation, adding that the situation is really very complicated and that drivers should rather stay at home. “It should blow until 6 pm, I believe it will calm down then,” he added.

Drivers also reported problems on Spišská Magura, on Plavnický Hill or in the High Tatras. There is very poor visibility on the roads, it slips and the road blows. Traffic accidents are also on the rise.

The dispatcher of the Regional Directorate of the Fire and Rescue Corps in Prešov for TASR confirmed that the current fire brigade is intervening in an accident of two trucks near Nižný Komárnik, between Bušovce and Jurský in the Kežmarok district, in the Bardejov district there is an accident near Gerlachov towards Tarnovo.

Stellacentrum also reports snowfall in the vicinity of Michalovce, and fog in the vicinity of Kráľovské Chlmec.

The wind was strongest in Poprad and Nitra

Until Monday, the Slovak Hydrometeorological Institute issued a strong wind warning for the entire territory.

In northern Slovakia, a snow warning applies until the early evening. Snow tongues and snowdrifts may form in northern, northeastern and central Slovakia. Meteorologists have recorded the strongest gusts of wind in Poprad and Nitre.

Strong winds also required an increase in firefighters’ departures. In connection with the unfavorable weather situation, they made 70 trips, while dozens of them still intervene.

Firefighters help remove fallen trees from roads and parked vehicles, and in several cases also remove torn roofs.
