Fico claims that thanks to the agreement with the USA, Ukrainian insurgents will be able to train in Slovakia – SME.sk

BRATISLAVA, Plans to help Ukrainian insurgents may include training in neighboring countries that are part of NATO’s Eastern Wing, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

He wrote about it according to the chairman of Smer Roberta Fica American newspaper New York Times (NYT) referring to representatives of the American administration.

Fico suggests that thanks to the agreement on cooperation in the field of defense with the USA (DCA), it will be easy to train the Ukrainian insurgent in Slovakia. Smer refuses.

According to Fica, the specific articles of the agreement stipulate that vehicles, vessels, aircraft of the Armed Forces of the United States of America will have free movement within the territory of Slovakia, no one can stop, control or enter these vehicles, vessels or aircraft.

“So imagine how easy it will be to train a Ukrainian insurgent here, and then move him to Ukrainian territory without any problems to fight in a possible conflict,” Fico said.

The conclusion of the agreement on cooperation in the field of defense with the USA was approved by the Slovak government on Wednesday, January 12. After signing the document, it must still be approved by the National Council of the Slovak Republic. Ratification by the President is also needed.

The agreement should allow the US Armed Forces to use the Malacky-Kuchyna and Sliač military airports, or other agreed facilities and premises.

The opposition, led by Smer, claims that the agreement is unfavorable for Slovakia and threatens the country’s sovereignty. Government officials refused.

The assembly is scheduled to meet in front of parliament on Tuesday. The vote asks the President of the SR Zuzana Čaputováto have the treaty assessed by the Constitutional Court.
