9:23 SLOVAKIA – During the second week of January, the Prešov self-governing region administered more than 4,000 anti-cancer vaccines. They vaccinated more than 600 people over the age of 60 and 315 children between the ages of five and 11.

The region vaccinated those interested in shopping malls, large-capacity vaccination centers and through the region’s mobile unit.

9:00 WORLD – 74 people have died in Australia in the last day, the most since the start of the pandemic, Reuters reports. It spreads here too omicron variant, for which an unusually high number of people need hospital care.

“Today is a very challenging one for our state,” said Dominic Perrottet, the prime minister of New South Wales with a population of about eight million, with 36 casualties. Perrottet added that hospitals are still able to cope with the growing numbers of covid patients in serious condition.

In Victoria, hospitals operate in a mode where they have to delay non-urgent interventions and disrupt staff vacation. Health authorities have noted that a significant proportion of those hospitalized are younger unvaccinated people.

8:25 WORLD – In the Czech Republic, it jumped compared to last week number of infected. Yesterday’s tests revealed 20,270 infected, which is 13,000 more than a week ago.

Although there are significantly fewer patients with covid in hospitals than a week ago, they have increased by seventy since the last weekend, informs ČT24.

Behind the sharp rise in new cases is the rapidly spreading omicron variant. Already last week, it accounted for half of the cases in the Czech Republic, currently it is 80 percent.

8:10 SLOVAKIA – During the weekend, vaccination of children from five to 11 years of age continued in the large-capacity vaccination centers of the Trnava self-governing region. In Dunajská Streda, Trnava and Skalica, a total of 417 were vaccinated with their Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine, informed the communication department of the self-governing region.

7:55 WORLD – The number of people infected with coronavirus in the world, according to Johns Hopkins University, exceeded 330 million yesterday.

At the same time, the number of infected people continues to rise rapidly: the last ten million have been infected twice in a row in three days, before that ten million people have been infected twice in a row in four days.

The United States holds the highest number of infections (66.5 million), followed by India (37.6 million) and Brazil (23.1 million). In Europe, Britain was the most infected in absolute terms (15.4 million).

7:30 SLOVAKIA – In the surrounding countries, the omicron variant has already prevailed in the statistics of new cases of coronavirus infection. However, he did not forget Slovakia.

Until January 10, the country had very strict anti-pandemic measures, a strong wave of variants delta and there are practically no tourists who could bring omikron to Slovakia. According to analysts working on the spread of the virus, these are the three main reasons why the new wave has not yet started.

However, according to analyst Ivan Bošnák, omicron is already visible in some areas. A typical example is the district of Stropkov in northeastern Slovakia. Recently, the number of infected there has increased several times.

7:00 WORLD – There were 74,405 new cases in Germany yesterday.

The seven-day incidence, which indicates the average daily number of infected people per 100,000 in seven days, rose to 553.2, the highest since the start of the pandemic. The day before this number was 528.2 and a week ago 387.9.

06:20 WORLD – Poland is experiencing the fifth wave of coronavirus infection, Minister of Health Adam Niedzielski announced on Monday. He warned that the spread of the omicron variant could cause such a sharp increase in daily cases of infection that Poland has not yet noticed.

“We predict that the peak of infections will occur in mid-February, and we will have about 60,000 cases a day at that peak,” Niedzielski told a news conference.

The highest number of daily cases of infection recorded since the onset of the pandemic was April 1, 2021, when 35,251 were reported.

0:00 SLOVAKIA – The government last week approved new measures in connection with the expected wave of the new omicron variant. The measures will take effect on Wednesday, January 19.

The main change is the creation of the OP + regime, which will be required at the most risky events. This means that two doses will not be enough to attend the event vaccines, nor overcoming the disease.
