Svitko moved in the top 10, motorcyclists could not complete the stage – PRAVDA.sk

The impassable sections on Friday’s 6th stage around the Riyadh of this year’s edition of the Dakar Rally in Saudi Arabia caused the organizers to interrupt the competitions of motorcyclists and quad bikes.

Up to 618 km were planned, of which 402 km were measured sections. All riders in these categories are already in the bivouac and they have a day off on Saturday.

On Friday, the racers will count times of 101 km and the Slovak representative Štefan Svitko took seventh place among the motorcycles. In the overall classification, he even moved in the Top 10 from ninth to seventh position.

The winner of Friday’s 6th stage among motorcycles was declared the Australian Daniel Sanders with a lead of 2:26 min over the British Sam Sunderland and 2:36 min over the Austrian Matthias Walkner.

Svitko lagged behind Sanders by 4:05 min. In the overall standings, Sunderland leads in front of Walkner (+2: 39 min) and Sanders (+5: 35 min), while 39-year-old Žaškovčan Svitko has a shortage of 24:29 min.

Most crews in car and truck competitions have already completed the prescribed track. Argentine Orlando Terranova triumphed among the cars on Friday by 66 seconds ahead of the Swede Mattias Ekström, and in the third place they classified the home team Yazeed Al-Rajhi with a shortfall of 109 seconds.

In the overall standings, Nasser Al-Attiyah from Qatar leads with a comfortable lead of 48:54 min before Al-Rajhi, the Frenchman Sébastien Loeb dropped to third place (+50: 25 min).

Czech Miroslav Zapletal and Slovak navigator Marek Sýkor took the 37th stage in the sixth stage and are in 21st place overall with more than three and a half hours shortfall on Al-Attiyah.

Among the trucks, the Russians confirm their dominance in the Kamaz. On Friday, Andrei Karginov won ahead of Dmitry Sotnikov and Eduard Nikolayev. In the running classification, Sotnikov leads by 10:29 min over Nikolayev, the third is another Russian rider Anton Shibalov with a loss of 38:17 min.

The Hungarian Zsolt Darászi is still on the track, the Slovak Ľubomír Palčo is also a part of his crew.
