Blair is now Sir Tony

Former Labor Prime Minister Tony Blair was honored with the Order of the Garter, the oldest English order of chivalry, making him Sir Tony. The members of the order are personally chosen by the queen, who can indicate up to 24 “knights and ladies”. In addition to Blair, Baroness Amos and Camilla, wife of Prince Charles, enter the chivalric order. Former Labor minister, Amos, who already sits in the House of Lords, is the first black woman to receive the honor, established in 1348 in recognition of important public services. Camilla’s choice is interpreted as a recognition by the Queen for the role played by the Duchess of Cornwall as a leading member of the royal family and consort of the future king, notes the BBC.
