HARRY POTTER – The Cast ofHarryPotter met at Hogwarts for the 20th anniversary of the saga. But one person is missing: Jk rowling, to whom we owe the story of‘Harry potter. The novelist was not present during the filming of this meeting, available since this Saturday, January 1 on the Salto platform in France. It will only intervene through magnetos added to the assembly.

So why was JK Rowling missing? According to the specialized media EW, JK Rowling would have been invited to participate in this meeting, but would have preferred to decline, her team believing that the filmed archives of the author were sufficient to represent her.

Still, the author is not really welcome since his slippage on Twitter. Indeed JK Rowling is accused of transphobia after several series of tweets that occurred between 2019 and 2020.

Transphobic words that do not pass

The controversy begins in December 2019 when the writer reacts to Maya Forstater’s tweet and gives her support. The young woman had been fired for declaring that one cannot “change biological sex”, that is to say what determines our gender at birth.

“As I said in my testimony, I believe that sex is a biological and immutable fact. There are two sexes. Men are males. Women are females. It’s impossible to change sex. This was understood, until very recently, to be basic facts of life. ”

According to JK Rowling, Maya Forstater has been unfairly punished. “Dress how you want. Call yourself whatever you want. Sleep with any consenting adult who gets you. Live your best life in peace and security. But to force women to quit their work for having declared that sex is real? ”She was indignant in turn on Twitter.

In June 2020, JK Rowling is putting it back on. This time around, while sharing an article about “menstruating”, she pretends to forget the word “woman”. “I’m sure we had to have a word for these people. Someone help me. Feum? Famme? Feemm? ”She quipped.

On social networks, Internet users remind him that trans men or non-binary people, that is to say people who do not identify as men or women, can also have their period.

To which JK Rowling responds: “If sex isn’t real, then same-sex attraction doesn’t exist. If the sex is not real then the reality experienced by women all over the world is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex takes a lot of people away from talking about their lives. There is nothing hateful about telling the truth. ”

Transphobic comments from JK Rowling that have not been passed on to the LGBTQ community, nor to the fans ofHarry potter and its cast.

Daniel radcliffe, who plays Harry Potter in the saga, has notably published on the site of The Trevor Project, an American association which fights against suicide among LGBTQ youth, an editorial in which he assures: “Trans women are women”. Emma watson, who plays Hermione Granger, also spoke on Twitter. “Trans people are who they say they are and deserve to live their lives without being constantly questioned or told they are not who they say they are,” she says.

A few weeks after this second slip, JK Rowling again hit the nail on the head by “liking” a tweet from a user of the blue bird social network. In this message the latter wrote: “Hormone prescriptions are the new anti-depressants. Yes, they are sometimes necessary and can save lives, but should be a case of last resort and not the first option. Those who would rather give medicine than spend time and effort on healing people’s minds are very lazy ”. A position shared by the novelist.

However, as the British news site reminds us PinkNews, these hormones can be vital for trans teens. These drugs make it possible to inhibit puberty, and therefore temporarily prevent the appearance of certain physical characteristics, such as a change in the voice, or the development of hair growth. These “puberty blockers” make it possible to avoid having to resort to certain surgical operations in adulthood.

A study published in the journal Pediatrics, in January 2020, showed that the use of these drugs can significantly reduce the risk of suicide and mental health problems, which trans adolescents are confronted with.

Insufficient explanations

JK Rowling tried to explain himself in a ticket published on its site by declaring to have been victim of domestic violence and sexual assault: “Like all other survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault that I know, I only feel empathy and solidarity with transgender women who have been abused by men”. But the author did not apologize for her comments.

These multiple trips could have cost JK Rowling his place at Hogwarts for the 20 years of the films reunion Harry potter which wants to be a moment of communion more than of controversy; although according to EW, the absence of the writer would not be due to his recent positions.

In any case, the sites Digital spy and EW specify that she will not be completely absent since sequences of the novelist dating from 2019 have been added to the documentary. She tells in particular a casting anecdote: “We couldn’t find Harry! We really couldn’t find Harry, and it was getting a little weird, and it was panic ”.

Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts itself wants as “a tribute to all those whose lives have been touched by this cultural phenomenon, to the talented actors and crew who poured their hearts and souls into this extraordinary film franchise to the passionate fans who continue to bring the spirit of the wizarding world 20 years later, ”said Warner Bros. boss Tom Ascheim.

And many others … All in the original settings of Hogwarts.
