Covid, contagions are running in Italy: record cases in the regions

This is the number of covid infections recorded yesterday in Italy, where various regions – from Lombardy, passing through Tuscany and up to Campania – have reached record numbers, in some cases never seen during the entire pandemic. A real boom in infections after Christmas and in view of the New Year while the Omicron variant alarms the peninsula, representing – at least as stated by the Undersecretary of Health Sileri – “over 50-60% of all the virus that at this moment circulates in our country “. Waiting to understand if the government will establish new and stricter anti-contagion rules, at least 5 regions yesterday reached very high numbers in the bulletins. These are Lombardy – which could soon become the yellow zone -, Veneto, Tuscany, Campania and Piedmont. Read also 28,795 new infections reported yesterday in Lombardy. 224,557 tests were performed, while the test-positive ratio stood at 12.8%. 12,235, moreover, the Covid positives recorded in 24 hours in the province of Milan, of which 4,671 in Milan city alone. In Veneto there were 7,403 new cases. However, hospitalizations are decreasing in the region: 1,050 in the non-critical area (-54) and 165 in intensive care (-8). Record of new coronavirus infections also in Tuscany, where according to the data of the latest bulletin there were 4,453 in 24 hours. Of the new cases, which are 1.3% more than the previous day’s total, 4,299 were confirmed with molecular swab and 154 by rapid antigen test. There were over 7 thousand new positives on more than 104 thousand tests carried out in Campania. The bulletin released by the Region’s crisis unit has registered record numbers since the beginning of the pandemic: 7,181 new cases emerged from the analysis of 104,533 tests. The percentage of positive tests out of the total number of tests performed is equal to 6.86%. Infection boom also in Piedmont, with 7,933 new cases of people who tested positive for Covid-19, equal to 11.1% of 71,513 swabs performed.
