Subjects were vaccinated with two doses of COVID-19 vaccine. At present, Slovakia has a total of 11 omicron cases laboratory-confirmed. TASR informed the Public Health Office (ÚVZ) SR about this.

According to Chief Hygienist Ján Mikas, the first person with the identified omicron variant has no travel history, while had a mild clinical course of the disease and measures were followed.

The second person also has a confirmed travel history and at the same time close contact with positive people. She also had a mild course of the disease.

The third party has a confirmed travel history from a high-risk country. “The clinical course of the disease was mild (cough), anti – epidemic measures have been implemented in full, “added Mikas.

According to the chief hygienist, the fourth person was in contact with people for whom the omicron variant had already been confirmed. She also had a mild course of the disease and symptoms such as weakness, fatigue or cough.

Due to the characteristics of the variant and the recorded occurrence in a person without a travel history ÚVZ assumes that the real incidence of omicron in the population is higher than indicated by the ongoing sequencing results of positive samples.

Therefore, ÚVZ strongly recommends being vaccinated against COVID-19 and strictly adhering to anti-epidemic measures. “Vaccination will significantly reduce the risk of a severe course of infection and a severe course of COVID-19,” Mikas added.
