CANBERRA. Several Australian states have seen record increases in the number of cases over the past 24 hours coronavirus, the DPA agency reported on Saturday, referring to the local authorities.

Australia’s most populous state, New South Wales, reported 6,288 new cases on Saturday, up from a previous record of 6,1212 cases the previous day.

Queensland (765) and Tasmania (33) also reported the highest increases in the number of people infected since the outbreak. In the state of Victoria, 2,108 people tested positive for the coronavirus.

Australian health authorities have urged residents to celebrate Christmas outdoors whenever possible to reduce the risk of infection.

In addition, the Ministry of Health encourages people to ventilate often and urges people with symptoms of COVID-19 to stay at home.
