The “2G +” regime is a model of reinforced vaccination pass, where the presentation of a complete vaccination schedule is not sufficient to fit into certain places. You must also get a negative test.

In the bill strengthening the tools for managing the health crisis, which should in particular allow the establishment of a vaccination pass in France, a line caught the eye on Thursday. A decree must therefore specify the cases “in which the interest of public health and the state of the health situation assessed under the conditions provided (…) require cumulative supporting documents”.

This means that presenting a vaccination pass – which is the subject of the text – might not be sufficient to enter certain places, which would require, in addition to proof of a complete vaccination schedule, that of a negative test. This system, which aims to slow the spread of Covid-19, in particular the Omicron variant, already exists in several of our neighbors: in Austria, Germany and Switzerland.

They speak of “2G”, “2G +” or “3G” or even “3G +” regimes. The “G’s” refer to the German terms “geimpft, getestet, genesen“which means:” vaccinated, tested, recovered “.

From “3G +” to “2G +” in Germany

The so-called places “3G” are those where you can enter on presentation of a complete vaccination schedule, a document attesting to a recovery from Covid-19 or a negative test – the equivalent of our current health pass. For places “2G”, a test is not enough, it is necessary either to be vaccinated, or to present a certificate of cure of the disease.

To these first classifications have been added in recent weeks the “+”, adding regulations for certain places. In Germany, the “3G +” means that the conditions of the 3G regime must be fulfilled, but that only PCR tests of less than 48 hours are allowed, whereas in the first system, antigen tests of less than 24 hours are also allowed.

The category 2G + – which could therefore emerge in a certain form in France, depending on parliamentary debates – is the most restrictive. In addition to proof of vaccination or recovery, a negative test (antigen less than 24 hours or PCR less than 48 hours) must be presented. However, people who have received their booster dose are exempt from testing.

The “2G” and “2G +” measures apply to “major sporting and cultural events”, to “major” appointments, explain the German health authorities. Their application differs according to the German states, the Länder.

2G + for discos and bars in Switzerland

Since December 20 in Switzerland, the 2G + rule applies “for discos and activities without a mask”, explains the Federal Council. “When it is not possible to wear the mask or to eat seated, access will be reserved for vaccinated or cured people who may also have a negative test result,” it said.

You must therefore present a 2G + pass at the entrance to nightclubs and bars, as well as for “non-professional sports and cultural activities for which wearing a mask is not possible, such as rehearsals of wind music”. In addition, “companies and event organizers subject to the 2G rule may decide to apply the 2G + rule in order to be able to waive the obligation to wear a mask and consume seated”, it is specified.

In Switzerland, this “2G +” rule does not however apply to those under 16, nor to people who have received their last dose of vaccine, or who have recovered from Covid-19, less than four months ago.

The 2G + regime imposed on travelers to Austria

In Austria, the 2G + system is imposed at the border, in order to enter Austrian soil, and unlike in Germany, only a negative PCR test is admissible, not the antigens.

“Regardless of the state of origin, a valid 2G certificate and a PCR test (i.e. 2G + proof) are required for access to Austrian territory”, explains the French Embassy in Austria. However, “for cross-border workers, a 3G certificate remains valid”.

Without PCR test or booster vaccination, quarantine is mandatory.

On the other hand, events bringing together more than 1000 people indoors and outdoors, with allocated seats, are classified 2G +. At more than 2000, it is requested to have received the booster dose and to present a PCR test, specifies the government website.

In Austria, while the reconfinement imposed three weeks ago will end on Monday, people who have not received an injection or who cannot present antibody certificates testifying to a recent infection with the coronavirus will remain them , deprived of exit.
