Android 13 Tiramisu: first new features unveiled by a leak – Frandroid

While we are still waiting for something new on Android 12L, it is the future Android 13 which is starting to show up with a first unofficial build. It allows you to discover some new features planned by Google.

Google now seems very busy on the future of Android. The firm has indeed unveiled Android 12L a few weeks ago, a new version dedicated to large screens such as tablets, foldable smartphones or devices with two screens. It is also working on Android 13 which will affect all devices and should be released in 2022 if we follow the brand’s usual schedule.

The site XDA-Developers was able to get his hands on an unofficial build of Android 13, code name Tiramisu, which allows us to discover some novelties in advance. As often with this kind of build, you have to take all this with a grain of salt: some new features may never see the light of day or be postponed to a future version of Android.

Language change by application

Here is a rather handy function for bilinguals, Android 13 should allow you to choose the display language application by application, independently. If you want to play Fortnite in English, but for the rest of the system to be in French, that would now be possible.

The option would be found in the system language settings, which would offer a new menu dedicated to applications.

Notifications disabled by default

To always reduce the profusion of notifications, Android 13 could consider them as an option to activate. The new version would indeed offer a “POST_NOTIFICATIONS” permission that applications would be forced to ask the user to be able to send and display notifications.

The operation would be the same as the request for access to the camera, microphone or location that we know well today.

Clock of your choice on the lock screen

An additional setting now allows you to choose between two display modes for the clock on the lock screen.

The first is the one we know from Android 12, where the clock takes center stage on the screen. The second allows you to display the clock at the top of the screen in a smaller space, this corresponds to the display currently present when notifications have been received. XDA specifies that this novelty could arrive as of the release of Android 12L and not wait for Android 13.

TARE: a new layer of optimization

If you’ve been following Android news for a long time, you know that Google likes to name its Android performance optimization projects. With the next update, we would be entitled to TARE, for The Android Resource Economy. The objective here would be to set up a system to better save the battery of the device. For this, the applications would announce to the system the tasks to be carried out associated with a certain energy cost, and the system would then be responsible for distributing or not the authorization to do this task or not depending on the battery level.

A sort of false economy would then be set up, hence the name of the function, where the applications would have a certain number of “energy consumption tokens” given by Android to the applications depending on the battery level. It would be up to the applications to manage the expenditure of these credits.

See you in early 2022

If this type of function is to find its way to the final version of Android 13, there is no doubt that Google will present it more clearly. We can bet on a Google I / O presentation, a conference aimed at developers, which should take place in the spring. The first “Preview” of Android 13 should begin to land in February, if Google keeps the same schedule as for Android 12.
