The Israeli company Amorphical reported that its drug against Covid-19 showed 100% efficacy in moderate to severe disease. The company announced the results after several dozen patients underwent a second round of clinical trials.

All 18 hospitalized patients with moderate or severe Covid-19 who received Amor-18 developed by the Israeli biotechnology company Amorphical recovered and were discharged home within a few days, informs tn.cz, which refers to The Jerusalem Post.

Of the 19 placebo patients, two died and six had to be transferred to the intensive care unit.

In addition, the drug should be effective against all currently known mutations. “From the moment the patients received the drug, they recovered within a few days and were discharged home. The drug is 100 percent effective,” said research chief Nashat Abu Saleh.

Amor-18, which uses amorphous calcium carbonate as its main component, was administered orally or by inhalation. As the biotechnology company itself explained, amorphous calcium carbonate has the ability to modulate pH changes around each cell. These changes subsequently affect the ability of the coronavirus to penetrate cells and replicate. The medicine thus prevents the virus from spreading and thus making patients worse.

“We are thrilled with the results of clinical trials that have truly brought hope to coronavirus patients in Israel and around the world,” said Yossi Ben, CEO.

Major tests of the new drug are already underway in several hospitals across Israel. The drug will be tested in other countries in the near future. Seven hospitals in Brazil have already announced that they will take part in the testing, and more centers in Europe and the United States are expected to join soon.
