The validity of covidpas is shortened. A third dose of vaccine will be needed – TVNOVINY.sk

On Tuesday, the European Commission (EC) approved a regulation shortening the so-called covidpas for nine months after the second dose of vaccine. The measure, which is supposed to support vaccination with the third supportive dose, should enter into force on February 1, 2022, Reuters reported.

The proposal to limit the validity of European digital covid certificates has already been discussed by EU leaders at the December summit in Brussels. It would not enter into force only if a majority of Member States or Members of the European Parliament did not agree. However, according to Reuters, the proposal has sufficient support within the EU.

European covidpas, facilitating travel between EU countries during the pandemic, were introduced on 1 July 2021, preliminarily for a period of 12 months.

The EC announced on Tuesday that it had approved a mandatory nine-month (exactly 270-day) period for accepting vaccination certificates for travel between EU countries. This binding regulation will replace the current non-binding recommendation from 1 February.

In this way, the EU is trying to harmonize the recognition of European covidpas in a situation where some countries are reintroducing – fearing the spread of the highly contagious omicron variant – various unilateral measures and restrictions at borders.

In this context, EU Commissioner for Justice Didier Reynders warned that “unilateral action by Member States could throw us (the EU) back into fragmentation and uncertainty.” quarantine.

Reynders also called on individual Member States to launch a third dose of anti-cancer vaccines as soon as possible to ensure safe travel within the Union. The validity of covidpas after vaccination with the third dose will not be limited yet.
