Covid today Italy, in intensive care 74% no vax

Out of 100 covid patients admitted to intensive care in Italy, there are 74 no vaxes. Today covid-19 continues to affect the unvaccinated more severely and the percentage of those hospitalized in intensive care units of the 16 sentinel hospitals identified by Fiaso (Italian Federation healthcare companies and hospitals) is in fact 74% against 26% of the vaccinated, for an overall increase in resuscitation hospitalizations in a week of 17%. The Fiaso report contains the data from the survey of 14 December. An expected figure – underlines the Federation – based on the trend of hospitalizations in the previous weeks: patients who arrive in intensive care usually do so after 5-6 days of hospitalization in other departments. During the week of 7-14 December, both patients with a complete and unvaccinated course increased, but with significant differences. Those vaccinated in resuscitation are on average 70 years old and in 80% of cases are affected by other pathologies. Among the no vax, however, only 52% have comorbidities and the average age drops to 64 years. The increase in ICU vaccines is almost exclusively attributable to frail patients who have been given the double-dose vaccine for over 4 months and who have not yet received the third dose. In fact, in one week, vaccinated subjects increased by 45% in resuscitation: all vaccinated for more than 4 months and 80% affected by other diseases. Ordinary hospitalizations also increased, but to a lesser extent than in previous weeks. In 7 days, the increase in hospitalizations for Covid was 8%, with a slight deceleration compared to 7 December. Among those hospitalized in the ordinary wards, vaccinated patients are on average 74 years old and in 79% of cases they are frail subjects with comorbidities. While the unvaccinated are on average younger, around 65, and only half of them are affected by diseases. 50% of Covid no vax patients, therefore, are made up of people in good health. “The last week’s report of sentinel hospitals – says the president of Fiaso, Giovanni Migliore – highlights the need and urgency of the third dose for frail patients, currently an absolute priority if we want to control intensive care. The data tell us that the vaccinated in resuscitation, albeit a minority of the total, are almost all frail patients who have not yet had access to the necessary additional dose to complete the vaccination cycle for those suffering from other diseases “. “It should be remembered – he specifies – that for extremely vulnerable subjects the additional dose is also recommended after 28 days from the second dose and it is not necessary to wait 5 months”.
