A Palestinian was killed Monday morning in clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, medical and security sources said.

Medical and security sources announced the death of a Palestinian on Monday (December 13th) after new clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinians in the occupied West Bank.

According to Palestinian sources, the man – Jamil Al-Kayyal, 31 – died after being shot in the head during a clash in the Ras Al-Ain neighborhood of Nablus. According to the Israeli police, special forces agents backed by soldiers arrested a suspect in Nablus and seized a semi-automatic weapon.

“When the special forces finished their operation and left the site, rioters threw short-range explosive devices at them, putting their lives in danger,” police said in a statement. “The forces responded with fire in the direction of the attackers, and seem to have hit one of them, who was evacuated from the scene by Red Crescent doctors,” the statement said.

Although Israel does not have a permanent presence in Palestinian towns in the West Bank, security forces carry out raids and arrests there, sometimes leading to clashes. About 475,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank, home to more than 2.8 million Palestinians.
