Ravanusa explosion, survivor: “It looked like an atomic bomb”

“It was scary. It looked like an atomic bomb, we even thought a plane had crashed nearby. We are alive by a miracle.” This was said by Calogero Bonanno, a teacher who lives in Palermo and who last night was at his in-laws’ house in Ravanusa, in via Trilussa, during the explosion. “My wife was breastfeeding her 4-month-old baby when we heard the explosion and we thought that the building had moved – said the man in tears -, immediately with my other two children, aged 5 and 11, we went down the street. There were glass and flames everywhere. All the fixtures exploded. We did not understand if there had been an earthquake. The fear was great. We are really alive only by a miracle “, he concluded.
