Bad weather in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques: Gérald Darmanin visiting the quays of Nive in Bayonne – South West

In the aftermath of the floods which affected the Basque Country and Béarn, the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin was visiting this Saturday, December 12 in Bayonne. Arrived at 3:30 p.m., he walked quickly around the traders on the quays of Nive. Raclettes and Karcher in hand, the owners and employees of the bars, restaurants or hairdressing salons on the quays exchanged a few words with the minister who came to “support them”.

And tell them that “from next Thursday”, the commission responsible for establishing the state of natural disaster will meet. “Usually, it takes two months to establish the state of natural disaster, there, it will be four days from Monday,” insists the minister. He also announced his intention to go to Laruns, Friday, December 17, “to see if there are possible reconstructions”.

Budget resources

After going up the quays on either side of the Nive, passing through the covered markets, he recalled the State’s commitment to reconstruction. “If there were to be an affected infrastructure, elected officials would not fail to challenge us and the prefects will have the budgetary means to help with these repairs. The same goes for the affected farms.

After an hour spent in Bayonne, the minister was to surrender in the Landes at Peyrehorade, where many homes were affected and families evacuated and relocated.
