Renault sentenced to 100,000 euros in damages for “hidden work” – franceinfo

The French car manufacturer Renault was sentenced for “covert work” on Monday 6 December by the Nanterre court. due to unaccounted overtime at two of its sites, in Eure and Yvelines. Consequently, the manufacturer will have to pay 100,000 euros in damages to the Sud Renault union.

The court ruled in its judgment that Renault “had not implemented a reliable working time monitoring tool to prevent overtime work” and that the company had thus “mentioned on the payslip of its employees, subject to the clipping system, a number of hours lower than that which they had actually accomplished”.

An agreement relating to the control of working time was signed in 2011 between Renault and the employees of its establishment, which includes the Technocentre in Guyancourt (Yvelines) and the Technical Center in Aubevoye (Eure). This agreement was supposed to make it possible to avoid overtime hours thanks to a badge system.

But the Sud Renault union had taken the group to court in 2020 to denounce an appeal “the system of clipping the working hours of its employees”, according to the court of Nanterre. The union accused Renault of resetting the overtime counter of its employees at the end of each year, without paying them. Between 2015 and 2019, these are “more than 120,000 hours of overtime” which were not accounted for by the company, according to a press release from Sud Renault.
