He caused the maxi fall in the Tour de France, gets away with a 1,200 euro fine

The 31-year-old woman responsible for the maxi fall during the first stage of the Tour de France last June was fined 1,200 euros by a court in Brest. The woman held up a large cardboard sign, greeting her grandparents, towards the cameras on the route in Brittany. Four-time time trial world champion Tony Martin crashed into the sign at high speed, causing about 50 cyclists to fall. The woman had initially fled the scene, but was constituted days later. According to the court, she had been accused of negligent assault and endangering the lives of other people. The prosecution had requested four months of probation for the 31-year-old. In court the defendant realized the danger of her actions and apologized, and the Tour de France organization eventually refrained from taking legal action against the woman. The International Association of Professional Cyclists had continued legal action to promote greater respect for cyclists, who had spent months training for the Tour and some of whom were unable to continue the race.
