Webuild: “Bicocca-Catenanuova section, construction site symbol of sustainable mobility in the EU”

The construction site of the Bicocca-Catenanuova railway section of the Palermo-Catania high-capacity line is a symbol of sustainable mobility in Europe. The project involves the doubling of a 38 km section along the Bicocca-Catenanuova, which will make it possible to connect the two main Sicilian cities in less than two hours. With about 400 people working directly and indirectly and a supply chain of over 300 all Italian companies, the contract includes the construction of civil works including 17 viaducts, 8 overpasses, 2 artificial tunnels and 2 tunnel pipelines. Various benefits are expected once the work has been completed, starting with over 2 and a half million passengers per year; it is also calculated that annually, thanks to this work, over 13,000 tons of Co2 will be avoided. The Palermo-Catania is in fact part of the initiative for the development of sustainable mobility promoted by the European Union to create the system of the European Ten-T Corridors, which will connect and improve the railway lines of the continent.
