Covid Greece, fine of 100 euros per month for over 60s without vaccine

A fine of 100 euros per month for people over 60 who refuse to get vaccinated against Covid. This is the measure announced in Greece by the prime minister, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, to incentivize the population to immunize themselves against the virus, also in light of the fears raised by the new Omicron variant. As reported by the Ekathimerini website, about 520,000 people over 60 in Greece are still not vaccinated. The fine will be imposed automatically by the independent public revenue authority. During a press conference, Mitsotakis stressed that the government’s alert is high for the new variant, although no cases of Omicron have been identified in Greece so far. At the moment about 63% of the Greek population is vaccinated, although appointments for vaccines have increased in recent weeks.
