Gismondo: “Yes, a vaccine is required, the government takes responsibility”

“Personally, I am in favor of the vaccination obligation” against Covid-19 “as the government takes responsibility”. With the Green pass today “we are already in fact obliged to vaccinate ourselves, as I believe is right at this stage, but all responsibility is left to the people. It is right that the government should take its own”. So at Adnkronos Salute Maria Rita Gismondo, director of the Laboratory of clinical microbiology, virology and diagnostics of bioemergencies at the Sacco hospital in Milan. From a medical-scientific point of view, the expert specifies, “the vaccination obligation, in my opinion, it would be right to introduce it for the frail, the elderly and all the chronically ill”. And again “from the scientific point of view, the lockdown could also help contain the infection, but the decision is political” and must “take into account the psychological, social and economic consequences” deriving from this type of restriction. While in Austria and in other European countries the wind of closure blows, Gismondo warns: “It is not certain that what can be useful from an epidemiological point of view must then be politically correct.” “We microbiologists, we virologists – underlines the expert at Adnkronos Health – we can only say that, if “due to the new wave of Covid” hospitals should come under pressure, measures should be taken.
