BRATISLAVA – Slovakia has been offended in the international corruption index, when it fell from 40th place to 42. Of the EU countries, it finished fifth from the end, only Croatia, Bulgaria, Hungary and Romania are worse off. This follows from the latest Global Corruption Index, which was reported by the Office for the Protection of Whistleblowers (UOO).

“Corruption is a global problem that even the most developed countries will avoid. We also have tools to fight corruption in Slovakia – companies and state institutions must have an internal system for reporting unfair practices and reporting honestly.” stressed on the social network office.

He reminded that corruption activities can often only be disrupted by anti-social whistleblowers. “That’s why it’s important to protect them and change the perception of reporting,” stated ÚOO. The Office therefore aims to put anti-corruption tools into practice, thus helping to eliminate the problem. “Therefore, we will closely monitor similar rankings and alert institutions to the necessary systemic changes,” added ÚOO.
