Activists protest in Tel Aviv against pollution from the fashion industry

(CNN) – The Israeli port of Tel Aviv was the scene on Friday of a colorful protest, coordinated by the non-governmental organization Fashion Revolution, to raise awareness about the so-called “fast fashion” due to the “huge environmental footprint” they claim it causes on the planet.

The Reuters agency shared images of a score of protesters wearing clothing created with recyclable materials such as plastic bags and cardboard boxes.

The most picturesque outfit was worn by a bride who covered her body with a wedding dress made from the bubble wrap used to send delicate packages to prevent damage.

Wearing a jacket made from cigarette butts, Bar Stefalsky, an activist videographer for Fashion Revolution in Israel, told Reuters that a fashion show was organized to call for a “creative change” with artist-made designs from “garbage fabrics” to show people the importance of saving the environment.

According to the Fashion Revolution site, the organization seeks to mobilize activism within the world of fashion by promoting an industry that conserves and restores the environment, and values ​​people above growth and profit.
