Covid-19: Haute-Corse sinks into the red – Corse-Matin

The virus is circulating intensely on the island and the indicators are deteriorating particularly in the north where the incidence rate is the highest in France. If hospitalizations do not increase for the time being, this 5th wave leads to many class closures in the academy

The health situation linked to the epidemic of Covid-19 continues to degrade into Corsica. The figures ofregional health agency (ARS) indeed reflect this intense viral circulation.

This increase continues with an incidence rate of 217 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, an increase of 66% compared to the previous week. The positivity rate, in other words the number of positive people per 100 screenings, is 4.6%.

In the eyes of the health authorities, the situation is even more worrying in Upper Corsica : the department has the highest incidence rate in mainland France, ahead of Ardèche.

This resumption of viral circulation, indicates the ARS, affects all age groups and the number of cases is increasing among 0-14 years, 20-39 years and 40-64 years.

The highest incidence rates concern young people in particular: 15-19 year olds and 20-39 year olds.

29 closed classes on the island

To date, despite four deaths recorded this week, the hospital situation has not deteriorated. The ARS even specifies that “the number of new admissions to hospitalization and intensive care fell slightly compared to the previous week”. That is to say eleven new admissions during the week against 14 during the previous week. Of these, five new admissions were made to the intensive care unit.

For now, the effects of this fifth wave, a fortiori among younger audiences, lead to many class closures in the academy.

According to the services of the rectorate of Corsica, 29 classes are currently closed out of the 2,257 on the island (read below). Over the last seven days, 133 students have tested positive for Covid-19, including 83 in Haute-Corse. As a reminder, the protocol in force requires the closure of the class from the first case in the first degree and according to the opinion of the health authorities in the secondary.

“No chain of transmission at school”

“The increase in cases has been constant since the start of the school year, explains the medical adviser of the rectorate. However, to date, we have not identified a chain of transmission at the school. “

The fact remains that the numbers have increased significantly in the space of a few weeks.

On October 22, the date of the academy’s last situation update, before the All Saints holidays, only four nursery and elementary classes were closed and 26 students tested positive for the virus out of the 47,890 in the region.
