Austria, as the second state of the European Union after Latvia, will go into a tough lockdown this autumn. This means a curfew, closed shops, except those necessary, restaurants, forbidden cultural or sporting events. Alexander Schallenberg has openly acknowledged that the measures taken so far, in particular the reduction of the unvaccinated population, have not been sufficient.

There are 2,800 in Austrian hospitals people with covid, of which 500 at JIS. That is about half the population of Slovakia. At JIS, however, they are close to capacity intended for covid. A year ago, it was at its peak in Austria 4,000 people in hospitals and 700 and JIS.

Compulsory vaccination

An even greater uproar abroad has been triggered by the announcement that the Austrian government wants to introduce compulsory covid vaccination from February. It would thus become the first such country in the European Union. He has about vaccinated so far 66 percent of the population.

In Slovakia, vaccination is voluntary, even for at-risk groups, whether by age or, for example, professionally.

“Therefore, we ask people to take the opportunity to voluntarily protect their health and the health of their loved ones,” the Ministry of Health responds to the introduction of compulsory vaccination in Austria.

“At the moment, we are in favor of people deciding to vaccinate voluntarily, but we ask that the undecided do so as soon as possible,” they added.
