The Bulgarian president has assigned Crimea to Russia, and Kiev has summoned an envoy – SME.sk

KIEV. On Friday, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned the Bulgarian ambassador to Kiev to protest against a statement by Bulgarian President Rumen Radev, who designated Crimea as the territory of the Russian Federation.

According to Interfax, the Ukrainian side considers Radev’s statement in the televised election debate to be incorrect and inadmissible and expects the president to explain his words.

In its opinion, the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that “the words of the incumbent Bulgarian President do not contribute to the development of good neighborly relations between Ukraine and Ukraine. Bulgaria and are in stark contrast to Sofia ‘s official stance, which promotes the sovereignty and territorial integrity of “Ukraine” within its internationally recognized borders “.

Bulgarian Ambassador Kostadin Kojabashev assured that the unchanging position of Bulgarian diplomacy, which supports the territorial integrity of Ukraine, considers the Crimean peninsula to be an integral part of Ukrainian territory and supports efforts to deoccupate it.

Interfax recalled that Bulgarian President Radev called Crimea Russian territory during a TV debate and called the sanctions imposed by the West on Russia in response to its annexation to Russian Federation entities ineffective.

According to the RIA Novosti agency, the opinions of Internet users on Radev’s statement differ: some of them outraged his words, others – according to the RIA Novosti “majority” – agreed with the president, referring to the history of Crimea.

In 1991, after the collapse of the USSR, Crimea remained part of Ukraine as an autonomous republic. In March 2014, based on the disputed referendum, it became an entity of the Russian Federation.

Ukraine currently designates the Crimean Peninsula as its temporarily occupied territory.

The countries of the European Union and the USA consider Russia’s actions in relation to Crimea to be an annexation and, in response, they have imposed sanctions on hundreds of companies, politicians and businessmen.

Russia continues to declare that the issue of Crimea is forever closed and that the peninsula belongs to the Russian Federation.
