TURIN – Slovak tennis player Filip Polášek and Croatian Ivan Dodig did not make it to the semifinals of the champions’ doubles tournament in Turin. As the six of them, they lost in the green group in a direct battle for promotion with the world teams of Croats Nikola Mektič and Mat Pavič 4: 6, 6: 7 (6).

Even at the premiere of the Masters two years ago in the London 02 arena, they did not penetrate the elite quartet. The fate of the introductory set of Thursday’s duel was decided by the fifth game, in which the Slovak-Croatian tandem did not win a fiftine when Polášek was served. Mektiš and Pavič returned perfectly and at 4: 2 they got to the other four breakball players during the Dodiga service, but they did not use either of them. At 5: 4, the Croats lost at Pavič 30:40, but they averted two breakball balls and the first set became their prey.

At the beginning of the second act, Polášek and Dodig led 2: 0, but Mektič and Pavič equalized to 2: 2 and the decision was made in the team. In it, Polášek and Dodig equalized from 1: 4 to 4: 4, but at 7: 6 the Croats turned the second swordball.

Polášek and Dodig qualified for Turin as the winners of the Australian Open Grand Slam, and although they broke up in the summer, they played together in Italy. Polášek and his new doubling partner, the Australian John Peers, finished just below the ATP Race in ninth place. Also in London in 2019, Polášek and Dodig scored one victory in the group. At that time, they lost their chance at the semifinals after two initial losses.
