VIENNA. Former Austrian Federal Chancellor Sebastian Kurz he lost parliamentary immunity to a corruption investigation on Thursday. The Austrian parliament decided unanimously, the DPA agency reported.

This step was also supported by Kurz (35) itself and its ÖVP party. They jointly declared that this would help clarify the situation.

A special anti-corruption prosecutor’s office suspects Kurza and some of his associates of fraud. The state money exchange rate allegedly funded opinion polls, which brought it to the forefront of the party and later the government.

In addition, he allegedly made a false statement before the parliamentary committee investigating the Ibiza corruption scandal, in which the FPÖ and the ÖVP were allegedly involved. The course denies all accusations.

At the beginning of October, the police carried out searches at the office of the office, at the ÖVP headquarters and at the Ministry of Finance. The course – still an office at the time – refused to resign.

However, due to the looming vote of no confidence in parliament, in which the coalition Greens would probably join the opposition, Kurz eventually resigned as head of government. However, he remained the chairman of the ÖVP and subsequently became the chairman of the parliamentary group in the National Council.

The course experienced a steep career growth at a young age: at the age of 27 he became Minister of Foreign Affairs and at the age of 31 the Federal Chancellor. His first term at the head of the cabinet ended prematurely in 2019 due to allegations of corruption in the Ibiza case against the FPÖ coalition partner.

As part of the investigation into this case, the police later discovered a written communication from the ÖVP environment. This eventually led to Kurz’s downfall.
